Everyone is on a budget nowadays so redecorating your house can seem like its impossible. Yet, with some small, inexpensive updates, you can transform the look of your house. The most basic way to update the look of a room is color. A new paint color on the walls can transfer a dull room to a stunning room. With a gallon of paint around $25, you can repaint a room for under $75. Top it off with a chair rail (around $9 for a 8ft piece) and you have a completely different room. Not in the mood to paint? How about some throw pillows on the couch? Or a new comforter? A little splash of color can go a long way. Now let's get creative - have plain knobs or handles on your kitchen cabinets or none at all? Get some decorative knobs for around $1.00 a knob and you have yourself updated cabinets. (Try this on any cabinet in your house!) Add some drama to your dining room or entry way with a new chandelier. For as low as $50.00 you can add a focal point that will wow. And how about that bathroom? Adding a new shower curtain and bath mat can really change the whole look of the room for under $50! No matter what room you are looking to update, house gutting renovations are not needed. With a little imagination, the smallest updates can create a whole new look for a room. Need some ideas? Take a walk around your local home improvement center and see what catches your eye. You never know what you might find that sparks an idea for a inexpensive update!

Want to update your bathroom with a huge remodeling project? With a few simple updates you can change your old outdated bathroom to something more eye appealing. And the best part is you can do it all yourself with little to no cost! Replacing a toilet seat This is so simple and takes no time at all. If your toilet works just fine, but your toilet seat is outdated or worn out, a quick swap can really improve things. Start by removing the old seat by using a deep well socket to unscrew the bolt. A little WD-40 can help to loosen things up if needed. Line up the new toilet seat and bolt into place. And you are done! Replace your shower head Having a great shower head can make taking a shower a whole new experience. Find one that fits what you have been dreaming of, whether it's one that creates a waterfall effect, or one with a hand held shower head. Typically replacing your shower head is as easy as unscrewing the old one and screwing on the new one! And for added benefit, pick one that saves on water. Update your hardware Updating your towel holders, soap dishes and toilet paper holder can really add a whole new look to a bathroom. Outdated hardware can make your bathroom look like it's from the 1970s so pick new hardware that is modern and fits the overall look of the bathroom. Replacing hooks and towel holders is an easy DIY project as long as you know how. Many of these don't have exposed screws, but they do have a tiny screw underneath each side that needs to be removed in order to lift off the wall mount. Get new towels And this includes bath mats, shower curtains and window curtains. Updating all these things can change the color scheme all together. Just make sure if you aren't going to repaint that you pick colors and patterns that compliment the existing wall color. Bathrooms look best in neutral colors, or lighter shades of blues, greens and yellows.

Water tap Many people looking to sell their homes aren't really looking to spend money on appliances and fixtures for the home they are about to leave. However, if you find yourself with a less-than-impressive bathroom in your home-for-sale, then consider these relatively cheap ways to add a little zing to your shower space.

  • Replace the doorknob.
  • If your bathroom has a linoleum floor, look into how much it would cost to replace.
  • Buy a new bathroom rug set. Even if you're taking them with you when you move, a new set will make your bathroom look a lot more inviting to a potential buyer.
  • Consider outfitting your shower with a new shower head.
  • Make sure your pipes are in good working order. Pipes that are slow to drain need to be addressed.
  • Take a look at your bathroom walls. Are they in need of a new paint job? A vibrant coat of paint can work wonders in a less-than-impressive bathroom.
As a general rule, cleanliness speaks for itself. If you can spot any part of your bathroom that may need a little TLC, odds are a potential buyer will see them, too.
